A Note from Our Commissioner
Dear Conference Attendees,
It is my honor and pleasure to welcome you to the 25th Annual Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) Conference! This conference marks the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry’s twenty-fifth year, a quarter of a century, of educating employers and employees in developing safe and healthy work environments and providing affordable safety and health training opportunities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The conference, being held at the Newport News Marriott at City Center in Newport News, Virginia, promises to be an exciting, educational and informative program. There will be opportunities for you to meet with safety and health experts in your field, develop valuable insights through learning sessions and the sharing of ideas as well as gain a renewed appreciation and perspective for why safety is of utmost importance in the workplace, at home, and on the road.
So, as you meet old friends and make new acquaintances in safety and health, we hope that the strategies and practices exchanged during the conference will serve you in the best possible way.

Attending the 2023 VOSH Conference
The VOSH Safety and Health Conference provides low-cost training for employers and employees in Virginia. Attendees have the opportunity to hear presentations from experts in the field, network with other professionals, and meet with vendors. It will be held at the Newport News Marriott at City Center in Newport News, Virginia. VOSH Cooperative Programs hosts the event every year for the public. This year will be the agency’s 25th year hosting the Conference. Pre-Conference OSHA 10 Hour courses will be offered for General Industry, Construction, and Spanish Construction. These Classes Begin On Tuesday, March 28, and conclude Wednesday morning March 29.
Keynote Speaker
Terry D. Gray
Terry D. Gray works as a pipefitter Foreman for the sole provider of aircraft carriers for the US Navy and the largest industrial employer in Virginia. Terry has been a pipefitter for 14 years with several of those years holding multiple leadership roles for, safety, non-profits, churches and industrial companies. Terry is married to his wife of 18 years and is the father of 4 beautiful children. He is a internationally known public speaker/motivational speaker who is a passionate advocate of safety and promoting the value of human life in the workplace and in the community.
Terry has spoken to thousands of people from around the world encouraging and empowering people with his message of safety entitled, “The Safety Man Movement” and is one of the most sought after motivational safety speakers in the nation. His message and skill to deliver it has garnered him multiple recognitions and awards including: the 2013 Vice President’s safety award the 2016 VPPPA Health and Safety Achievement Award at the VPPPA national conference and Terry also has been awarded the 2017 “Model of Excellence” award which is the highest recognition given at his workplace. The 2018 National Safety and Health Outreach award. In 2020 Mr. Gray became an author publishing his first work titled after his most popular message “The Safety Man Movement.” In 2022 Terry produced the worlds first safety album. Terry is also an ordained Pastor and serves as assistant Pastor at Revelation Church located in Newport News Virginia.

Vendors are invited to bring a gift to be raffled off. Prizes will be awarded during the vendor reception on Wednesday, March 29, from 4:30pm – 5:30pm.
