Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Update
The Boiler Safety Compliance Office recently completed a tally of activities for 2003. In that year, 35,021 acceptable inspection reports were processed, and Certificates of Inspection were issued to owner/users in the Commonwealth. There are currently 69,007 active objects registered in Virginia, inspected on an annual or biannual basis.
Also in 2003, the Virginia Safety and Health Codes Board approved amendments to Boiler rules governing waterside controls on fuel trains, bringing the boiler rules up to date with national standards.
The Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act, which established an inspection and certification program for boilers and pressure vessels, was originally adopted in 1972. The Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Compliance Program enforces and oversees the provisions of the Act and protects life and property through its regular inspection program.
